We pride ourselves in our ability to customize products to fit anyone’s needs. Best Cob LLC can produce dozens of different products that vary in particle size and density (lb/ft.3) Corn cobs are processed through a series of grinding, cleaning, and sizing operations to produce the desired end products. Those products vary from relatively large particles, similar in size to a BB, down to very fine flour products. The sizing is accomplished by sifting materials through different sized screens. Products are defined by the size of mesh that the particle would pass through.
Typically, larger particle size products are referred to as “grit” products and the smaller particles sizes as “flour” products. A third category of products comes from aspirating off the lightweight parts of a corn cob during the grinding process. This product is usually compressed into pellets to improve handling and increase density. The resulting pellet is extremely absorbent and can then be further processed into different particle sizes.
For example, a 10-14 grit product contains particles that would pass through a standard 10 mesh screen but are too large to pass through a 14 mesh screen, and a -80 product would be all particles that went through an 80 mesh screen. Screen sizes are standard and refer to the number of openings per inch as in the diagram below. The use of a larger mesh size (number of openings/inch) results in a final product with smaller particles.
Best Cob LLC has an assortment of equipment in different combinations that can produce products to meet the specifications of a wide variety of applications.

Used as carriers for products in lawn care, insect control, animal nutrition etc. Other applications include foundry, mushroom growing, metal polishing, and pet bedding, etc.
RP (Regrind Pellets) products all begin as pellets and can then be reduced and classified by size similar to our grit products. These products have exceptional absorbency characteristics and are often used as carriers as well.
